Sarah Edstrom Smith
As Associate General Counsel at Oppidan, Sarah manages the legal aspects of the company’s real estate development projects, working closely with both internal teams and external partners. Her expertise spans acquisition, sales, financing, development, leasing, and construction matters, ensuring that each project is executed with sound legal strategy and compliance. Sarah plays a critical role in navigating complex real estate transactions, mitigating risk, and supporting Oppidan’s continued growth.
Prior to joining Oppidan, Sarah built an extensive career as a real estate and development attorney, serving as Associate and then Shareholder at Briggs and Morgan before moving in-house. She held legal counsel roles at Life Time, Ryan Companies and Opus, providing strategic legal guidance across all facets of commercial real estate.
Sarah earned her Bachelor of Arts and Juris Doctorate from Hamline University. Sarah is actively involved in the Association of Corporate Counsel, MNCREW, and NAIOP, further solidifying her leadership in the industry. Beyond her legal career, she has contributed to her local community as a former Savage Planning Commission member. A dedicated parent to two wonderful children and a golden retriever, Sarah enjoys running (she’s completed eight marathons and more than 40 half marathons!), hiking and exploring national parks, traveling with her husband, and attending concerts.
