Oppidan breaks ground on new data center; only one of two active data center projects in Minnesota
Oppidan financing build-to-suit project that will deliver needed infrastructure, high-paying skilled jobs, and long-term community benefits
Eagan, Minn. – (June 5, 2025) – Oppidan Investment Company, a national property development firm headquartered in Excelsior, Minn., broke ground on a 61,000 square foot data center on Argenta Trail, south of the YMCA in Eagan, Minn, one of only two ground-up data center projects currently underway in Minnesota. Oppidan has developed data centers across the country since 2016.
The project is unique in its build-to-suit approach: Oppidan is serving as the landlord and directly financing, developing, and delivering the facility in partnership with a tenant. This model highlights Oppidan’s ability to tailor solutions that meet specific client needs while maximizing community benefits.
Data centers offer lasting value to communities, including:
- High-paying technical and skilled trade jobs (such as electricians, system engineers, HVAC specialists, and plumbers)
- New local tax contributions that support public services and schools
- Minimal strain on emergency services
- Opportunities to expand vocational education and career pathways in the trades and tech sectors
“This is a a demonstration of our financial strength and commitment to data center development and long-term partnership with the Eagan community,” said Dave Scott, Oppidan President and General Counsel. “We are proud to invest in this region, to help bring high-paying skilled jobs, grow local tax revenue, and strengthen Minnesota’s standing as a competitive player in the data center sector.”
The project is expected to be completed in 2026.
