The Minnesota commercial real estate industry celebrated another year of big deals and resilience in the face of economic challenges during the Minnesota Real Estate Journal’s 2023 Real Estate Awards.
More than 900 commercial real estate professionals from across the state gathered at the Doubletree by Hilton Hotel Bloomington in Minneapolis to honor their fellow professionals who overcame the hurdles of rising interest rates, soaring inflation and economic uncertainty to close major deals, develop glittering new buildings and bring new affordable housing to the state of Minnesota.
More than 220 finalists from the profession competed for 50 real estate awards.
A highlight of the evening came when Joe Ryan, chief executive officer and owner of Excelsior, Minnesota-based Oppidan, received his lifetime achievement award.
Ryan has long played a key role in the Minnesota commercial real estate industry, having founded Oppidan Investment Company in 1991. Ryan’s goal with the company has always been “delivering value.” That approach has paid off as Oppidan today remains one of the busiest development firms in the state.
Ryan has led his team in the development of more than 580 projects valued at more than $4 billion and spanning 25 million square feet throughout 41 states and parts of Canada. The company’s impressive client list includes US Franciscans, Christian Brothers, Ebenezer, Watermark Retirement Communities, Duluth Trading Company, Cub Foods, Camping World, Target and many more.
