MNCREW recognizes Oppidan with three organization, individual Celebration Awards

Minneapolis, Minn. – November 18, 2020 – Oppidan’s accomplishments in the community were on display at the 2020 MNCREW Celebration Awards. The team took home the top honor for Community Impact and Empowering Women. Shannon Rusk, Oppidan Senior Vice President of Development, was honored with the Excellence in Leadership Award.

Rusk’s track record and business savvy has led to the diversification of Oppidan’s development by successfully repositioning the company to reach beyond merchant retail (Camping World/Gander Outdoors) and into sports facilities (three facilities in Minnesota and California), oil and gas (seven transload facilities throughout the nation valued at more than $60 million) and senior housing (seven senior housing communities in Minnesota and California, with six more projects in the development stages valued at more than $500 million). Rusk is the lead developer of Oppidan’s Senior Housing portfolio, which includes six Pillars Senior Living Communities across the state and multiple senior housing developments in California.

Rusk has also been named to the 2020 Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal Women in Business and the 2020 TCB Magazine Notable Women in CRE.

Oppidan is a community leader when it comes to its philanthropy. The Oppidan team strongly believes in transforming the communities in which they build. Top examples include the company’s involvement in the senior living industry, where it created The Pillars Fund, which is used for memory care programming to enrich the lives of the memory care residents who reside in Oppidan-built senior living communities. Additional nonprofits Oppidan supports include Alzheimer’s Association, Special Olympics, Habitat for Humanity, Camp Fire/Tanadoona, Ronald McDonald House, Lake Minnetonka Chamber of Commerce, Folds of Honor, Goodwill, Kowalski’s 4 Kids, Not Me!/Superhero Kids Foundation, Rein in Sarcoma, and Twin Cities Jazz Fest.

Under the leadership of Rusk, Oppidan founded the Women Lead Empowerment series of women’s networking events. Each Oppidan Women Lead Empowerment event features a powerful female business leader speaking about her successes and challenges, to encourage progress and development among the standing-room only crowd of women in attendance. The Women Lead Empowerment event fosters mentoring relationships with women inside and outside of the industry.
