New Oppidan Development to Meet Rising Need for Senior Housing in Shorewood
Thursday, August 11, 2016
Senior living has been on the rise in the Twin Cities over the last three years. It comes as little surprise; baby boomers aren’t only downsizing, they’re considering and planning for how their needs will evolve as they age. But breaking from the tradition of fleeing to other climates, large numbers of boomers/seniors want to continue living in the communities in which they have well established roots.
“I hear from residents almost every day looking for somewhere for their next phase in life, “ said Shorewood Mayor Scott Zerby. “There is some frustration with being able to find this kind of housing stock in the area that is a reasonable price point. This project to me makes a lot of sense.”
The project Mayor Zerby is referring is the new senior living project in Shorewood, Minnesota, by Oppidan Investment Company. Located on Chaska Road and Highway 7, the project was approved in June by Shorewood City Council and a tax-increment-financing district created to extend utilities to the new facility and mitigate future traffic issues.
The project is an Oppidan development in partnership with Ebenezer Management Services, which will be operating the 105-unit rental facility. The majority of the building is independent and assisted living with 25 memory-care units.
“We are very excited about this project, and you will see the full line of amenities in it,” said Shannon Rusk, Vice President of Development and Brokerage Services for Oppidan. Such amenities include a dining room, fitness area, hair salon, private meeting rooms, a lounge and a patio.
Anderson Companies is design-building the project with Pope Architects as architect and Loucks as civil engineer.
“We are very pleased to be working with Oppidan, Ebenezer and Pope on this project,” said Shane Walgamuth, Senior Project Manager for Anderson Companies. “They’re a great team and we’re confident that together with the City of Shorewood, we will deliver a highly successful project, and provide wonderful new homes for Shorewood’s senior residents.”
Oppidan will celebrate the groundbreaking of Shorewood Senior Living in September.
