It's Hammer Time! Orchard Supply Hardware Opens First San Francisco Location in North Beach

SAN FRANCISCO, July 14, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- The first Orchard Supply Hardware® (OSH) in the city of San Francisco is now officially open at 2598 Taylor St. in North Beach near Fisherman's Wharf. The award-winning home maintenance retailer has customized this location to cater to apartment dwellers and smaller space living, and will offer an array of services at its Workbench, including key cutting, rescreening and other everyday maintenance needs. A grand opening celebration weekend filled with promotions, giveaways, entertainment and activities for the whole family, will take place Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 1 and 2.

"We are excited to bring the residents of North Beach a convenient destination and high level of service and expertise for all of their paint, repair or seasonal needs," said Bob Tellier, President of OSH. "Our new urban-focused store will carry more than 35,000 different household and maintenance items uniquely selected to address the specific needs of San Francisco residents."

At nearly 36,000-square-feet, the new store occupies two buildings connected by a glass encased skywalk. Custom, localized design elements pay homage to the area, such as a switch plate mosaic in the electrical department and a six-foot Golden Gate Bridge art piece created from hardware sold in store.

"We used different design and visual elements to call attention to some of the unique architectural features of this building, such as highlighting the interior brick wall with a city skyline mural painted directly onto the surface by California artist Tom Adams," said Erica Ecker, Director of Visual Marketing, OSH. "Also, the existing elevator support structure has been painted 'Golden Gate Bridge Red' and will be used to feature our work wear products."

As part of OSH's "Neighbors Helping Neighbors" philosophy, each new store selects a local charity partner to recognize during its grand opening celebration weekend. OSH North Beach is teaming up with the San Francisco Botanical Garden Society, a local organization dedicated to bringing San Francisco residents a 55-acre living museum in Golden Gate National Park. During the Aug. 1grand opening ceremony, the organization will receive a $10,000 donation to support its local beautification and sustainable gardening education efforts.

"Our local associates have worked day and night to make this new Orchard location a reality," said Sean Wally, Store Manager, OSH. "We're honored to be a part of the North Beach community and we look forward to building relationships with our neighboring businesses and local residents throughout San Francisco over the coming years."

A grand-opening celebration will kick-off on Sat., Aug. 1, 2015 at 6:30 a.m. with an opening ceremony OSH style: a board-cutting ceremony. The day will feature a live DJ, a premium espresso cart, and opportunities to win prizes, including a signed San Francisco Giants jersey and baseball tickets (valued at $1,379), and kitchen gadget basket (valued at $324.93). Kids can also enjoy face painters and balloon twisters throughout the store all weekend. As a thank you to its new San Francisco neighbors, the first 100 adults in line at 6:30 a.m. on Aug. 1 will receive a $25 gift card, and the first 1,000 customers on Aug. 1 and 2 will receive a canvas shopping tote.

OSH North Beach is located at 2598 Taylor St. (at North Point Street) in the Plaza Shopping Center. To accommodate shoppers, parking in the underground garage can be validated for up to two hours with any $10 in-store purchase. To contact the store, please call (415) 563-8016.
